Announcement of One Person Show II

I am pleased to announce my show at Dorado Gallery in Tokyo.

New Small Work Finished

Been lazy to update my blog.
During that blank period, I was spending most of my time in my studio for painting, in my room for reconstructing my website, and in a gym in my neighbor for playing badminton.

A Small painting is finished. I derived the image from light reflections in trees.
By outfocusing the actual image of trees, I try to depict things existing between the object (trees, in this case) and me.

first day of painting (a month ago)

  I used gesso for the first time, since I usually apply foundation white for underpaintig. Although it seems to absorb more oil from overlayers, gesso makes me easier to even the grains of canvas.
Painting is always repetitive play and experiment for me. I had never satisfied 100% with my any work. Maybe I should say, the very next day after I felt pretty positive about a work and completed with signing, I start to feel something is still missing. Will someday be coming  in the future that my satisfaction will continue for long?
Anyway, it is so nice to play badminton for refreshing.

小品の新作です。1枚描くのに行ったり来たりであれこれ時間がかかります。
なかなか100％満足する作品はできませんが、一歩一歩前進していきたいものです。
制作の合間には趣味のバドミントンで気分転換しています。
※上記作品は10月の東京での個展で展示いたします。（詳細は後日）

Chrysanthemum3

Here is my palette of one day and finished work.

burnt umber, black, white, verditer blue, cadmium green pale, rose madder, burnt shienna, olive green, aureolin, rose violet, etc

I like neutral colors. In most cases, I add some gray or umber to any paints from tube. My color tastes are very much influenced by the climate of Japan; very moderate and humid. For example, sky is not really "blue", it is more like verditer blue, a bit grayish and whitish than cerulean blue. White flowers are either inclined toward yellow or gray. Soft sunlight here enables me to see variations of colors and that might be the reason that I like to play with colors.

「菊３」で使用したある日のパレットです。日本の気候のせいか、自然をモチーフにした絵なので原色よりも中間色を好んで使います。グレーや茶系を混ぜることが多いです。バジターブルー、カドミウムグリーンペール（クサカベ）、オリーブグリーン（ホルベイン）など、よく使います。

Another Group Show at Osaka

Umeda Hankyu, the biggest department store in Osaka, will have summer art festival showcasing works by contemporary artists represented by several hot galleries in Kansai. I will be exhibiting three of my work including oil painting shown below, "Flowers".

Show Announcement

My works are included in the group show at Dorado Gallery, Waseda, Tokyo from July 30 through Aug. 7. The exhibition showcases various interpretation of landscapes by group of contemporary artists.

Getting Into High Summer

Still working on two paintings day-by-day basis.
Rainy season has ended and we should prepare for high summer.

Added pale blue and green.
I hope to present air of early summer sunlight.
Need to be painted in layers after layers.

Still thinking about background colors.

My body is getting used to studio life without air conditioner.
I am happy that I can save power and bill at the same time.
Oh, but it is really hot! Saying "it's hot" makes me feel hotter!
The only problem to turn on air conditioner is that worsen my poor blood circulation.
However I still like hot summer like summer.
This is the season that we can appreciate the breath of air.
Plus it is the time for fire works, lantern festival, and among all, water melon(+beer after studio hours).
Let's enjoy!

暑いですね。いよいよ本格的な夏の始まりです。
２つの作品を交互に制作中。絵を描くのは意外に暑いので、汗だくになります。
でもクーラー病になりやすいのでこのほうが体にいいのかもしれないと諦めてキャンバスに向かっています。暑いですが夏は好きな季節です。

New Canvases On Easel

Finishing three shows in a row in Osaka, I came back to my studio and started to prepare for new paintings for another one person show in Oct.

This is the first stage of the painting, in which I hope to depict early summer sunlight.
Painting in monochrome is like making a map to get clues for light values.  

Another chrysanthemum painting. I already have a blueprint of the finished work, but it usually does not end up as I see in my mind.

It is very hot and humid in Japan in this time of the year, as usual.
In addition, Japanese government is appealing for people to save electricity throughout the nation since we may be running out of power in midsummer this year due to the series of accidents of nuclear power plant in Fukushima, which has not been blown over yet.
Therefore, as many Japanese do, no wonder that I volunteer to refrain from using air conditioner in my studio and at home as long as I can.    
In order to develop my physical strength not to suffer heat stroke, I went to badminton practice this morning and played for 2 and a half hours, then ended up with awful muscle aches here and there.

大阪での一連の展覧会も終了し、次に向けての制作を少しずつ進めています。
1つ目の写真は「天の滴」シリーズの予定、２つ目の写真は今年から始めた菊の作品の予定です。
日本全体が節電モードなので、私もできるだけクーラーをつけないで頑張っています。
とにかく体力を。。。と思い、バドミントンの練習に行っていますが、この暑さでは熱中症になりそうな勢い。。今日は練習試合が多く、体中が筋肉痛です。とほほ。
